The Japanese Philosophy of Shinrin-yoku
Shinrin-yoku, or ‘Forest Bathing,’ is the simple practice of being calm and quiet amongst the trees. It is not about hiking or exercise; it is about observing nature with all of your senses. Scientific studies show that spending just twenty minutes in a forest lowers cortisol levels, reduces blood pressure, and boosts the immune system. The trees release organic compounds called phytonicides, which protect them from pests — and quietly heal us when we walk by.
